Black Friday is Upon Us...time flew

Black Friday is Upon Us...time flew

Oh my!  So it's about that time: What time might that be, you ask?  Black Friday of course. Yes, Black Friday is exactly 7 days away. I have to admit, I was a little startled when I saw the calendar this morning but it’s also pretty exciting for our little local economy.

I have often wondered where the term Black Friday originated.  Most major historical events that begin with Black are tragic.

Not to be too depressing but remember Black Tuesday? How about the Black Plague?

So, where did the term Black Friday originate and WHY does it have a positive vibe?

  • One answer is “in the black" is the term used when businesses earn a profit and this period typically starts the day after Thanksgiving, so Black Friday is apropos.
  • Another reason is in the '60s, Philadelphia police officers coined the term when the city was bombarded with tourists who came to shop-- guess when?-- on the Friday after Thanksgiving.  News outlets started using the term and the rest, as they say, is history.

Now, in the tradition of Black Friday, we hope to see you at our Black Friday sale --which will actually be on Wednesday --why be like everyone else, riiight?? Our little boutique couldn’t compete with the big major retailers…thus Black Wednesday was born…Wow we have been doing this for the past 7 years!!! And I know that some of you wait for it…thank you.

So yes…, come take a break at the Vogue. Embrace this cooler weather--finally!-- and  take advantage of our fabulous sale--on sweaters, boots , and coats, everything you need for this refreshingly cold weather

There have been national movements the past few years encouraging shoppers to spend their hard-earned dollars with the merchants that provide local jobs and help make your city a great place to live and work.  Shopping local not only improves your local tax base, helping fund everything from schools to park maintenance and land conservation, but it limits the amount of fossil fuels used to have items shipped long distances from online stores- not to mention you don’t have to get up at 2am to get to Austin in time for any of the worthwhile deals!

Remember it’s a very short trip with NO traffic, plenty of free parking and the best customer service in town. Promise!

Yours truly,

Stacey & Martha 💕
